This Website

This website is built on WordPress release 3.1.  While I am using WordPress as a blog, I’m even more using it as a Content Management System for a website where the blog is a minor part of message.

I’m using the Coraline theme.  I like this theme for its simplicity, enabling me to place the visual emphasis on my images rather than my website.

The site uses the Highslide for WordPress *reloaded* plug-in (with Highslide JS embedded) for image display management.  (Highslide JS was embedded in my old website and it just simply “gets the job done.”)

I’m using four other plug-ins to augment the Coraline theme: Simple Section Navigation Widget,  Contact Form 7, Multicons and Meta Tag Manager

My original website was built using static html pages.  I found it so much of a chore to update the website that I was doing a poor job of posting new work and struggled to do updates as infrequently as once in six months.  I have high expectations that use of WordPress with its dynamic pages and straightforward content management system will enable me to post new work much more frequently and generally enable my website to be a “living document.”

This WordPress-based website was first placed in production in May, 2011.  It was my first experience with using WordPress.  I highly recommend the following book for anyone considering rolling their own WordPress-based website:

April Hodge Silver, WordPress 3 Complete, Packt Publishing, 2011, ISBN: 978-1-849514-10-1.

Finally, my hosting provider, Media Layer LLC, made it incredibly easy to get WordPress and its supporting database management system and tools in operation.  The quality of their administrative tools matches the high caliber of the hosting service they provide.  I highly recommend them!
