Trees

Trees are a rich-source of subject matter for my photography.  They say a lot about the environment of northern California.

Monterey Cypress thrives in the wet, cool, foggy weather while the wind shapes them.  Planted in rows as wind-breaks, those hedgerows are now a signature for our home community where even the architecture seeks to emulate their wind-blown form.

The many variety of oak trees that dot the coastal hills are always stately and never more so than in winter after they have dropped their leaves, exposing the amazing structure of their branches.

While not native, eucalyptus trees have also been planted as hedgerows to mark the boundaries of coastal ranches.  I wish I could find a way to capture their fragrance in my images.
